The short answer
If MTGO is the only Windows program you need, use a Mac app that runs it, like Unearth MTGO. There’s no Windows to buy, and it runs on any Mac with macOS 12 or later, the MacBook Neo included.

Five ways to run it
| Way | You need | Cost | What it’s like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unearth MTGOA Mac app | macOS 12 or later, Apple silicon or Intel, 8 GB of RAM | $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year | MTGO opens like any Mac app, with its sound, ⌘C and ⌘V, and every display working. |
| Parallels Desktop or VMware FusionA virtual machine | A Windows 11 license, and RAM for macOS and Windows at once | A Windows 11 license, plus Parallels if you choose it | You run and update a whole copy of Windows to play MTGO, and it holds a share of your Mac’s RAM while it runs. |
| A cloud PCStreamed over the internet | A fast, steady internet connection | A monthly fee | Every click travels to a data center and back, so your connection decides how the game feels. |
| Boot CampIntel Macs only | An Intel Mac and a Windows license | A Windows license | You restart your Mac into Windows every time you play. Macs with Apple silicon can’t use it at all. |
| Wine on your ownCrossOver, Whisky or plain Wine | Time to set it up, and to fix what breaks | Your time, plus CrossOver if you choose it | Under plain Wine, MTGO has no sound, and the rest you fix by hand. Whisky stopped development in April 2025. |
